I got a call from DIsh. The person said he needed to update the software on my VIP722. I said "doesn't this happen at night?" He said, this is a special update, and if you don't do it then you'll lose your programming in 10 days. Is this a real thing? Why can't it just update overnight like always?
Sounds fishy. I used to have that same DVR and no one from Dish ever called me about an update. Did he ask you for your credit card, password or other personal information?
Thanks! It didn't feel right and the guy was really irrirated with me.
Thanks for the reply. Didn't sound right to me either.
I can assure you that you can disregard this call. Software updates are automatic, and they do happen during daily/nightly updates. While new software was recently released for the 722 model rcvr's, your rcvr's will not stop working if you don't update. You will just miss out on some possible new features and bug fixes.
Thank you. It's so annoying, they can be so convincing! I'd better change my password!
Thanks for the reply.
