today, again the Hopper started to act sluggish, you put channel number and it take a good 8 seconds or more to get to the hopper (remote batteries are fine) then I tried to go to on demand and it was sluggish then hopper decided to hard reset itself, I record stuff on hopper and when I try to view them on my 2 joeys it play for a minute then I lose the sound so I'm forced to go downstairs to watch it through main Hopper. at many occasions pixelation happen when I watch international channels on Joeys only but not the hopper. this happened before back in January and when I call I need to go through the waste of time of: plug, unplug, plug and then they send me my way and when I say it slow they say "its ok it need to connect to to a signal" until another tech felt sorry for me and decided to send me a replacement hopper ( which was not new but refurbished) and made me pay for shipping or I risk a tech bringing it to my house at a much larger fee. that was in January and the refurbished hopper starting to show similar signs to the one it replaced, my joeys are 6 years old.
God forbid I get a new equipment, free installation or a saving offer. after all I'm just a 10+ years customer who pay $175 a month. keep the good stuff to new customers who pay way less than I do.

Just a thought, you're obviously still using the first Hopper & Joeys, released in early 2012 - it can't keep up with current Hopper software (are you still using a computer or cell phone that old?). Contact someone at Dish through this forum (names in orange, try Matt) and ask what your options are for upgrading to a newer Hopper and Joeys, there should be something available. At least upgrade to a Hopper with Sling if you can't get a Hopper 3, but I would recommend a Hopper 3 even if you have to pay a little, definitely more future-proof & faster.

yes, first generation, but I asked a while ago and they said in order to get the Hopper 3 then I will need to pay for installation, I said no thank you so I paid $15 for shipping to get the old refurbished hopper sent to replace the one I had.

Ask again, nothing to lose. Since the interface was forced on customers with older dvr's a month ago things seem to have changed. It's not your fault the software upgrade made your Hopper useless.

OK, I will try again, thank you guys for the reply, but I swear if the tech asked me to unplug and re plug my hopper then I may lose it... LOL

Long-time customers should be able to simply ask for free installation and an upgrade to the latest hardware, in return for some type of time commitment (two years, etc).

Every three or four years I'll do this to get the latest and greatest, and so far Dish has been happy to oblige. That's why I have been a customer since 1996 or so.

well the best I was able to get now is $100 for the hopper 3 and 2 joeys and free installation, no free upgrade to hopper 3, plus my bill will go up $3 a month (DVR fee go from 12 to 15) and sign 2 year commitment too. I need to think about it.

One more thing to try is to contact Dish on the phone and follow the prompts to terminate your service. You'll eventually get to a retention specialist and maybe you can get the $100 waived.
