Hi there, Johneightyone. We can certainly look into this concern with you. If you are having this issue, make sure that there is Guide information for the program you are trying to setup recording. If the event that you are trying to set to DVR, check the guide and if there is something similar to "Info Not Available" or "No Information", if there is, update the guide by either resetting the Hopper like you did, or free up a tuner to allow the guide to download in the back ground.
If the Guide information is up-to-date, check your Timers already setup and check to make sure that a similar event is already not setup interfering with the new timer you are trying to setup. Also, while checking, make sure that the Max Timer limit has not been met, as a total of 200 timers can be active at any given time. If you already have 200 timers you will need to delete at least one to make room for the new timer.
