What do the blue, red and green backgrounds mean?

Gcotterl, I would be more than happy to assist you with this further. Where are you seeing the blue, red, and green backgrounds? Are you looking in the menus or is this a part of your Daily Schedule for the timers?

From the Themes and Search menu, I select (under 'Theme") "Movies by Rating" and (under "Sub-Theme") "R" then press "Get Results" button.

The resulting "Search Results" menu list the applicable programs.

For Tuesday, September 25th at 1:30 PM and 1:40 PM:

• on the SHO-E channel, "Chuck" has a red background
• on the HDNMV channel, "Southland Tales" has a blue background
• on the TMC-E channel, "Devil's Pass" has a green background.

Thank you for providing the additional information! 

After our research, we were able to find that the red background behind a channel usually means  you have not subscribed to the channel. A green background behind a channel means that you can use Select on your remote control to confirm the channel to your subscription. Blue would mean that you are subscribed to this channel.

Then your reply should've said "...the red background behind a channel ___ means you have not subscribed to the channel".
