Major Havoc, having part of the picture cut off can be very frustrating. Thank you for bring this to our attention. I would be delighted to submit this feedback to our Engineer Team for them to look into and see what we can do to get this resolved!
Thanks Sam. I can send images if it would help, and happy to test or try things out if you have questions. Note that it’s 4:3 OTA content that gets zoomed automatically where the issues seems to be.
i have been been in touch with corporate on this matter and want to give them time to work on it, thanks,
Just received and installed my OTA tuner and this problem is still ongoing as described by original poster. I have the Hopper 3 and have tried resizing the OTA on it and on the Joey's and the resizing options are there but do not have any affect on changing the size.
FYI: I have found a workaround because this still is not correctly fixed.
You need to go to any Standard Definition (4:3) channel supplied by DISH satellite (NOT OTA). On one of those channels, you can use the FORMAT button on the remote to rezise that SD channel to the way you want it displayed. One of those modes will shows it with side letterbox and full view of the original 4:3 image.
Now go back to your OTA SD channel. It will be formatted correctly.
It seems that OTA SD channels will use the last format of a Dish SD channel set. This allows me to see the etire image now. It is a pain and they should be able to just make the format button work on OTA SD channels. But this will give you a work around at this time.
Edit: Re-read what you posted about "any" channel...duh! It worked!! Thank you for the tip!
Thanks I will give that a try. However, one of the channels I would like to be able to resize is the sub channel (i.e. 13-1) and there is no equivalent to it on the Dish guide. Maybe even doing this workaround with the main channel 13-0 will also work though so I'll report back if it does. Thanks for the info!
There are any number of SD channels on DIsh's lineup.
Here is what I suggest: Find an SD channle, and press the FORMAT button to select the next FORMAT choice.
Go back to your off-air channel and see how it looks.
Continue this through all the formats avaialble, and find the one that works best.
It does not have to be the correct format for Dish's SD, just the format that you want to use for the OTA channel. For example, you really want zoom, then just zoom the SD Dish channle, and it should stay zoomed when you go back to OTA.
