We just subscribed to Dish in order to monitor a local PBS channel, exclusively for the purpose of receiving EAS alerts at our radio station, which are in turn retransmitted to the public. Therefore, it is critical (CRITICAL!!) that the receiver not shut off, which it now does when the software updates.
I know how to disable the inactivity function of the Walley, which we have done, but is there a way to disable the auto-updates. The auto-update function commandeers our TV, and therefore puts it into a sleep mode.
We only monitor one channel, and that station is never to be changed.
Based on my research, I suspect that I will be told that there is nothing to be done about this. However, if this is the case, this will force me cancel my new dish network subscription, and into a Direct TV subscription, as my research indicates Direct TV is less onerous.
For a "mission critical" application like radio station EAS/CAP compliance per FCC regs, shouldn't you be using one of the readily available EAS/CAP monitor/encoder/decoder systems made for that purpose?
