Hopper output resolution question

I can change the output resolution of the Hopper with no problem, 1080, 720, etc. I currently have my box set to 1080. When I tune to a SD channel, the box still puts out the signal at 1080. The picture is obviously SD, 4x3, a bit fuzzy. It seems like the box always puts out a signal at the higher resolution, even though the content doesn't support it. Shouldn't it switch to a lower resolution with SD channels? What am I missing?

The receiver will always output 1080 if that is what you have selected but this will not effect picture quality for SD channels as we know they are 48- and 4x3. This will not change the quality of the picture if you change the video output settings. You may want to try format if you are looking for a different picture size

When viewing SD channels, depending on the source video being sent out, some video will be kind fuzzy as it may not be up converted in any way. I noticed this as well on some SD channels that have older video or shows. Just the way it is.
