With the Hopper 3 can I get 5.1 Dolby Digital sound when using the Netflix app? I get DD sound when watching movies, etc but when I use the Netflix app I only get stereo sound. Checked with Netflix and they told me some programs that are in DD to test with and these only have stereo sound when played thru the Hopper 3 which is connected via optical cable to my sound system.
Does the movie/show youâ€™re trying to watch play in 5.1 or have the 5.1 audio available? When you go through your settings of Netflix, is it set for 5.1? Some people have had success by reversing the ends of the cable or trying an alternate cable may resolve the issue you are experiencing.
Problem resolved - not really but found out the problem. Had a long chat with a very helpful person from Netflix. Turns out the Hopper 3, Joey, etc do not support 5.1 with Netflix. See https://help.netflix.com/en/node/23940 versus seeing TiVo https://help.netflix.com/en/node/23925 which does. The person put in a request to have their software updated to support Dish equipment so sometime Dish will get an update from Netflix and then push it out to the receivers.
