Ok, I had encoded MP4 with H264 and AC3. Home media saw the files I generated however would not play them. Said was not playable.

I found mp4's will work but lots of things can trip you up, like subtitles encoded in the stream will break most players. I use mkv files, they seem to stream better than mp4's in a fast moving action scene with same settings the mp4's would pixelate where the mkv's worked fine..

I have 592 mkv's in my library and they all play fine on my old hopper v1, the new hopper v3 and they also play on my joey's (2/4k) here is a typical one..

The window thing is a new bug, "mp4" is the container like "mkv" is a container, inside a container are the codec's i.e. xvid, mpeg, avc for video, mp3, aac, ac3 etc. for audio. So an "mp4" with AVC video and AAC audio would be compatible but an mp4 with xvid video would not be..

If your gonna go that route go with android/Kodi tv box vs the relentlessly buggy plex and a fire anything and having to fight with amazon over who actually owns an item once you've bought it..

I have four TV's we all use and one KooRaRoo media server that feeds them all. It's easy once setup and works in every room without the need to have additional hardware added to each TV. I really like the KooRaRoo software, works perfectly with the Home Media option built into the Hopper/Joey (minus this annoying bug which isn't a media server issue).

I updated from the Hopper 2 to the Hopper 3. I was strongly thinking about cutting the cord the one thing that actually was keeping dish service was the ease of having tv channels all my recorded video via Home Media player and Netflix. Now that the home media player has become useless due to this small box issue it has forced me to purchase Roku units for all my TV's we are finding these are a suitable solution and pushing me more to cut the cord.

Registered just to chime in with having the same problem. Use PLEX heavily. This is a critical bug.
