Dish royally made a big mistake with this NO CHOICE Google Voice. The first program I spoke into the remote which was Spin the Wheel returned "You should love everyone and be sure to tell them" where in God's name did it get that from. So I tried speaking a few more program names and all I got was "cannot find that, having technical difficulties try again later".

Dish you have destroyed Voice, first by installing Google Voice without asking if we wanted it (we don't) and then by not allowing a choice to go back to Voice if we needed to, which we most certainly do.

Did you ever hear the old saying "if it's not broken don't fix it". I can tell from this needless disaster you haven't.

What a mistake!  Everyone needs to file with BBB.org and file with FCC because this is a special feature for hanicaped folks that no longer have.  It is criminal what Dish Network has done.

Oh, this is funny, just spoke at the voice remote "F*** Google" and it said for me to contact Google Feedback.  Oh, they are listening.

Yay, this seems to work much like it used to. I haven't used it much, only spoke a TV station so far, haven't asked it to find a particular show yet. I'm hoping it'll work for that too. With the Google Assistant if I asked it to find a program to watch, it would send me too YouTube. Not at all what I wanted!

Google does not care.  They want more power.  Dish sold our private information.  Please provide the amount that Google paid for our account information.  BTW, our Google Assistant could not find anything we asked, so we were forced to figure out how to disable voice feature.  Took two days, but we were successful.  Google Assistant is like the iceburg that took down an incredible passenger cruise ship.  Many people died a horrific death.

You're all missing the FAR BIGGER problem: anyone, and I mean literally anyone, can now chromecast to your receiver. All anyone needs is access to the internet (to have something to cast and to connect with Google), use google chrome, and voila they can cast right to your tv without doing any further set up. And apparently there's absolutely no way to stop it.

This means the neighbor you hate or someone sitting in their car within a few dozen feet of your home can now cast porn or murder scenes or other horrible videos while your children are watching their cartoons or while you're laying down relaxing and watching a movie, since the moment something is casted to your receiver it overrides everything else. And considering you don't need to do it through the Google Home app like with a regular chromecast device, it makes it even easier. Then, when I try to shut it down, my receiver crashes so badly it's a blank screen and doesn't even attempt to restart itself, meaning I have to do a cold reset for it to work again. Which likely means the programmers had no idea what they were doing (par for the course) and had no idea how to try to make it work so they jammed things in random places instead.

Also, since there's absolutely no way to actually turn off the chromecast, there's no way to stop this. There's no way to prevent the possibility. There's no way to protect yourself or your children. Which means having your tv on with children around allows a real, even if tiny, chance that your children could be exposed to something really awful if people start exploiting this complete and total failure of a company to care about their users. This means Dish and Google are actively participating in allowing anyone to force you or your kids to watch whatever they want as long as you're using their receiver.

As if that was bad enough, THEIR EMPLOYEES DON'T EVEN KNOW THIS IS A POSSIBILITY! They've never been told chromecast ability exists within the receivers, let alone trained in how it works. Yet again I'm literally training their own IT people how their equipment works because Dish employees apparently get no training on anything besides "look up the code and tell them what to do". So if their own employees have no idea it exists, how many customers won't know until it happens to them?

Time to contact the FCC https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/filing-informal-complaint BBB https://www.bbb.org/us/co/englewood/profile/cable-tv/dish-network-llc-0885-6370 your state Attorney General's office https://www.usa.gov/state-attorney-general and especially your federal elected officials https://whoismyrepresentative.com/ to file complaints with all of them for this egregious and extraordinarily dangerous problem. Encourage investigations and for Dish and Google to have to testify in front of congress about why they believe it was okay to force this on us. And be sure to tell everyone you know who has Dish about this, so they can be extremely cautious (never allow their children to watch anything alone) and also file complaints.

While it is correct that you can Chromecast Youtube to your dish reciever (depening on rcvr model). this is not new, or in any way tied to the changes relating to Google Assistant Voice control.

Additionally, it is not "just open chrome and no setup is needed".  Your receivers must be internet connected, and the device attempting to cast Youtube (because you can only chromecast YouTube to our receivers) must be connected to the same internet network the receivers are using.

So in short, for someone to cast Youtube to your receiver without your consent, they must not only be in range of your wifi network (likely within 100-200 feet of your router), but they must also know your wifi password/security settings as well.

If you do not have security settings such as passwords or MAC filtering enabled on your wifi network, I strongly encourage you to contact yout internet service provider or router manufacter to seek advice on how to set them up.

That's funny because the ability to cast to the receiver never showed up on my computer until after the Google Assistant was put on a little over a month ago. Also, not even 1 of 8 people I've talked to at Dish today, including at the top of tech support and top of customer service, had ever heard of such a thing and continually blamed me, my tv, and even Google for it (the Google employee said he'd send the info for investigation). Plus, my laptop is on a different internet connection than my receiver (I have comcast internet which has a slower connection and a 5G simultaneously, and my laptop is on one while my receiver is on the other). Also, while I'm pretty careful with my internet and do have passwords on my wifi network, a lot of people don't. Which means if I can make it work without even trying, there are a whole lot of other people out there who aren't as cautious who will fall victim to it as soon as people figure this out.

So I beg to differ, because apparently you're literally the only person in all of Dish (I just got a tweet back from your coworker RP as the 9th Dish employee who says this isn't even remotely possible, and right while I'm typing this response hmm) who somehow knew this was a possibility. Also, since there's no setting to turn it off, no way to stop someone from connecting to it (again - I'm not signed into anything nor have I done any setup to make it work), and Dish is constantly blaming the customer for their problems, I think it's better that all of these entities know what's actually going on in hopes of preventing some serious problems.

But, I guess, thanks for not gaslighting me like most of your colleagues and admitting this is totally a real thing that's happening.

DISH Employee

If you would like to discuss this further I would be happy to discuss it over private message.  Here is a link to a how to that explains how to send PM's in detail in case you have not done it on this site before.

Perhaps DISH should have asked it we wanted it. Google steals your personal info and sells it. Google is being investigated for anti trust as we speak (type).

So, if we don't want Google we lose speech search which we paid for?

I bet if the truth were known, Google pays DISH so it can steal customers info. Going back to Direct.
